happened to everyone I lived and worked with for one year. Have been

thriving industrial park along with homes. The green general

I was the reason 257th Sig. Co. was inactivated. While serving as driver
for CSM Dobson and COL Cavanaugh, CSM Dobson asked me what I would
suggest to improve the brigade. Having already given it some thought, I
told him I thought the 257th, which was made up of 5 detachments and a
HQ, could be inactivated and the detachments which spread from Pusan to
Seoul could be absorbed into local 1st Sig units. A few months later,
that very thing was carried out with some minor changes to my original
suggestions. |

Many of us still serve in uniform as retirees, with
the State Guards, honor guards, or as National Guardsmen who attend
Veterans function, both on and off military bases. With the advent of
the new Dress Blues as the regular dress uniform, we need a Combat
Service Identification Badge. Considering the special status of these
folks, it will be years, if at all, if the CSIB for the 1st Signal Bde
will ever come out. We don't believe that the Bde, since it hasn't seen
combat service since Vietnam, is at the highest priority. The Heraldry
Institute will not commit on dates of production, if at all. Is it
possible that the Association can generate "bootleg" CSIB's for the old
folks? I am quite sure there would be a market for them. |

I got a
question, I just read that on Jan 1,1967 USARSUPTHAI
assumed control of all U.S. Army units in Thailand. I do not remember it
that way, my unit the 105th Signal Services Detachment was under the 29th
Signal Group which in turn was under 1st Signal Brigade out of Long Binh.
I
do not remember any 1st Signal units in Thailand falling under USARSUPTHAI.
I do remember JUSMAGTHAI J-6 having a big say in our operations, but not
USARSUPTHAI. We wore the 1st Signal patch, not the USARSUPTHAI patch. Can
anyone provide more information on this? |

I have recently met with my former
battalion commander, Colonel (Ret) Harvie T. Ingram, Signal Corps, who
commanded the 369th Signal
Battalion (HQ in Vung Tau) in 1970. We had a great time over breakfast
going back and sharing perspectives (mine, bottom up, his top down and all
around). He has asked me to help try and find our Command Sergeant Major
from that period, CSM Charles Isaiah Anderson. That is the purpose
of my posting.
On behalf of Colonel (Retired) Harvie T. Ingram, Signal Corps, former
commander of 369th Signal Battalion, Vietnam (1970), I am seeking any
information pertaining to CSM Charles Isaiah Anderson, who was with then
LTC Ingram and the 369th. the Colonel believes that CSM Anderson retired
from the Army shortly after Vietnam, and moved to the Pennsylvania area.
That is all we know. If anyone knows him, or of his status, both the
Colonel and his now old Chief Warrant Officer would be much in your debt.
May God Bless all who visit this site, and all those who answered the call
from the Great Signal Ranger in the sky. Air Assault!! Respectfully, John. |

My father was in the Signal Corp 1968-1969,
not sure what unit. I think it was part of the Americal Division. All I
know about his MOS, is that he climbed poles to hang phone wire. He talks
about Chu Lai a lot. Says he had a CSM name Mains. I have a box of a few
hundred slides taken on a Kodak 110 camera. I plan to have them made into
pictures soon. Anyway, if anyone might have any info on what unit he may
have been in please let me know. His name is Tom Darnell from Michigan. |
